Cats Biographies

The Dubliners' Tabby Cats is a cat-based folk music group that performs Irish drinking songs and traditional Irish music tunes in homes around the world. The group was formed online by Torre while their humans were away at work.

They foraged their way out of the gutters of Ireland to create a musical menagerie that combines Irish drinking songs and the folk music stylings of groups like The Dubliners, The Clancy Brothers, the Irish Rovers, and "Weird" Al Yankovic to create a sound unlike any Celtic music group you've heard today. The songs will make you laugh and cry with delight or distension as this feline group reinvents traditional Irish folk music.

To help them in their endeavors, they enlisted the aid of a few humans to play the non-vocal instruments. See the human biographies here.

Torre the Tabby Cat, Band Leader Cacciatore "Torre" Gunn (alpha cat, mreows)

Torre is a grey tabby who started The Dubliners' Tabby Cats. In 2003, he overheard a telephone conversation with his human, Marc Gunn, about writing a parody of traditional Irish drinking songs with lyrics about cats. He then realized this was the perfect outlet for his musical vision combining cats and Celtic music as well as a place where he could openly express his purrs and low voice in song. He immediately started working on songs with his brother Tiziano and began manipulating Marc to write the human lyrics for his masterpieces.

Tiziano the Tabby Cat, Band Leader Tiziano Gunn (mews, name tag jingles)

Tiziano is a brown tabby cat and brother of Torre. Tiziano was a late blooming singer, but when he first heard the resonance of Marc's bathroom, he knew what he wanted to do with his life. He began practicing daily and developed pure tenor vocals that complement his engaging and charismatic live performance. His soft fur and charming good looks make him a natural Ladies cat. Careful ladies... he's single!

Jasper, or "Jasper-Kitty" as he is sometimes known, spent a reckless youth in the guardianship of a mysterious human counterpart in Austin, Texas. As ringleaders of an underground catnip cartel, the duo was eventually captured and brought to justice. While paying his dues to society at the local SPCA, our tabby friend experienced a spiritual awakening and realized that his life’s purpose was to share his gift of music with others. He first tried his paw at the violin. But after hearing the false, yet disturbing, tales about the use of cat-gut in violin strings, he settled on percussion. His favorite instrument to rattle? The kitchen cabinets.

Laszlo, also known as “Laszlino Gattino”, earned his name by virtue of the fact that he was nearly raised from the dead, like Lazarus. He was abandoned as an infant in the grass of a corner store in Austin, Texas. Hearing his mews for help, an off-duty vet tech found the white Siamese sitting, half-dead and despondent, in a pile of fire ants. A few weeks later, he had found a loving home with a compassionate, but often obsessive-compulsive, woman. After she nursed him back to health, she and a friend gave Laszlo the scrubbing of a lifetime. With the passing of time, he proved to be a vocal virtuoso, though a bit of a perfectionist.

Dora was a starving grey tabby girl when she joined the band at the young age of five weeks. She was a child prodigy who mastered the guitar, learning how to attack the strings when her human wasn't looking. Yet it is her singing voice that is her greatest instrument. She mastered a wide vocal range that enables her to hit the highest notes audibe to the human ear. When not singing or practicing guitar, she loves to catch butterflies, chase water streams from hoses, and sneak into narrow places.
